Does anybody else see the hugely popular "Rrroll up the Rim to Win!" marketing campaign as decidedly anti-progressive? Tim Horton's needs to get with the times and scrap this waste-fostering non sense. I was struck by the sign at my local Tim's proclaiming "31,000,000 prizes to be won!!" That's 31 million pieces of WINNING litter, never mind all the losers.

I appreciate that the chance to win brings people through the door and that is good for the bottom line. But, just because it makes for a catchy slogan, should Tim's really be encouraging people to purchase, roll and discard paper cups as fast as possible?

Why not start a new campaign where customers using a reusable travel mug are given a small coupon they could scratch off for a chance to win. Regardless of your level of eco-savvy, everybody must admit that the sight of thousands of Tim's cups overflowing trash cans and emerging from our melting snowbanks is disgusting.

Instead of encouraging consumers to waste as much as possible, Tim's could be putting their marketing money into converting more coffee drinkers to travel mug users. But I guess that wouldn't make for as catchy a slogan...
