Lederhosen Lucil

Tales from the Pantry

Published October 30, 2003.Lederhosen LucilTales from the Pantry (Hypo)A recent dazzler at Ladyfest, Lederhosen Lucil gives eccentricity a good name, deftly massaging vintage keyboards while singing about lumps on her skin (“Doin’ the Ganglia”) and diet concerns (“Semi-Sweet”). Her topics are those of an outsider artist, yet she sings in three languages, and classical influence arises almost as readily as a B-52’s/Tom-Tom Club jump. Anyone averse to cheesy keyboards may find the record tiresome. As oddball music goes, though, it’s ripe fruit with ice cream on it. —Doug Taylor
