Landline is one of the most unique theatre experiences at Prismatic. It uses technology to connect individuals in Dartmouth and Ottawa, and invites them to share their surroundings and stories. Dustin Harvey (Secret Theatre, Halifax) and Adrienne Wong (Neworld Theatre, Vancouver) talk a little about their creation.

How/when did the creation process for Landlinehappen?

DH: I met Adrienne a few years ago. We decided to work together after I attended her PodPlay as part of the Push Festival in Vancouver. We were both making projects that used headsets, and we saw a new collaboration as an opportunity to move beyond what we both had been doing.

Describe how Landline works.

DH: You arrive at the secret location and receive a text message from a long distance number that says "standing by." We give you an iPod and a headset and then you go on an adventure through the public spaces unbeknownst to anyone else.

What makes it a theatrical experience?

AW: Theatre is about connections, between the performers and the audience and the audience with each other. In Landline we are stretching the geographic boundaries of shared space.

Why should people come to this show?

AW: Landline is unlike any show you've experienced. Not only do you get to rediscover your city, there's an element of the unknown: who will you meet? What will you talk about? That's fun!

Why should people come to Prismatic?

AW: Wouldn't it be nice to be able to travel to nightclubs and experience art and music from around the world? With Prismatic, you can get a taste of all these different places without leaving the city. Well, you might have to cross the harbour, but that's a lot cheaper than a plane ticket! —KW
