La Cache closes | Shoptalk | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

Women's clothing chain La Cache (5657 Spring Garden), owned by Montrealers Chris Cornell and April Cornell, filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this month. With the potential to close 30 of their Canadian stores, Halifax must bid farewell to the old world boutique at the end of October.

"It's a bit of a blow," says Bernie Smith, manager of the Spring Garden Area Merchant Association. "I know a lot of people are very disappointed. Certainly a lot of the women I know are upset by the loss, though it's just like how bars and restaurants have their seasons. Everything operates on its own season. La Cache has opened a feeding frenzy for the location."

According to Dan Burke, manager of Park Lane Mall, there are plenty of rumours of who might occupy this highly sought after location, but nothing is confirmed
