Kinetic Studio's Season Finale | Music | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

There are plenty of reasons to check out Kinetic Studio's season finale. For the past month Mocean Dance has worked with award-winning choreographer Susie Burpee on a new piece called Rescue Left Her to Her Plight. Fans of Winnipeg singer Christine Fellows might recognize Burpee's name from Fellows' awesome album, Nevertheless; the song "The Spinster's Almanac" was originally commissioned for a Burpee dance work. For the Mocean piece Burpee says she was inspired by "the legacy of elements in the history of Nova Scotia. As a creator, I am most interested in human stories and so the influence of elements on the people of a region begs investigation. I am interested in personal stories---how even a seemingly minor event in an individual's life can carry great resonance and act on a universal level. I believe that audiences connect with and reinterpret such personal stories for themselves."Also on the program is Susanne Chui's newest dance creation, Invidia. Joined by Jacinte Armstrong, Lisa Phinney and Elise Vanderborght, with music composed by Asif and Shehab Illyas from MIR, the piece is based around the concept and emotions of envy. We're jealous of the way that Chui's now-fiance proposed to her: in Mike Holmes' True Story comic, found in the back pages of The Coast.Give Chui and all the dancers congrats from Thursday, April 17 to Saturday, April 19 at 8pm, Sunday at 2pm, Neptune Studio Theatre, 1593 Argyle. Tickets are $18-$22.50 at the Neptune box office, 429-7070.
