Kid Koala

Your Mom’s Favorite DJ

Kid Koala
Your Mom’s Favorite DJ
(Ninja Tune)
Your Mom’s Favorite DJ is a challenging listen as it does not rely on a traditional track list—instead there are three tracks for 30-plus minutes of material. Recorded as a mix-tape, it forces the listener to sit down and experience the turntable stylings as you might with a piece of classical or jazz. If you caught the Koala at the Marquee last time he was in town, you’d have witnessed the way he uses the turntables to bend notes in the same manner as a saxophonist. YMFDJ is a work of art that fans will eat up, but the casual listener won’t be willing to invest the time. Kid Koala shows that the turntables can also lend themselves nicely to jazz.
