Re: “The Seaport Market and the problem of “authentic Maritime culture”

The Halifax Seaport Market is run by Julie Chaisson who doesn't know what she's doing. The market is run by a bunch of bullies, and treat its vendor with tactics like, do this, go there, or get out. I can speak to it to anyone in the press about this first hand. For the port authority to take investors money and pre-pay a 25 year lease is criminal. Secondly, doing the math, getting that building for $4667.00 a month to lease for 25 years is and was the only thing the port authority wanted in the first place. This will not be a market in another year. The costs for the port and the market are not sustainable as the HSM is their main client and as a 2-3 day market, it's not paying the bills, hence they will need to find another way to cover costs, and my prediction is it will turn into office space.

Re: “The Seaport Market's inadvertent whitening

Cranky. You need to be out in your place. These vendors are not fucks. They're people running small businesses that are being bullied by market management and I know this for a fact. It happened to me as a past vendor.

Re: “City abruptly changes food truck permitting system

What about the food truck that spent 25K, does he get his money back, even if he paid the 5K a year rate, he should be getting 4K back?

Re: “Halifax musician Jenny MacDonald wants her $92 back

They don't give a rats ass about their tenants or their tenants guests.

Re: “Would you like to buy some marijuana?

This wouldn't surprise me that HRPD are shopping this list of numbers and emails in a sting operation. I personally wouldn't be putting my personal contact information up on here in this thread. But in any event, puff puff pass. Happy 420.

Re: “Seaport Farmers Market investors may be “toast”

Since there's so many comments on here, I'd like to make one on each of these comments.

1. This project was conceptualized and put together with a few key people who are at the market and they didnt get proper advice. Much like today, the market's lawyer is a Marine Insurance lawyer, whom is giving poor advice to the market. I dont' think the Coast is shitting on the market any less, just more information is coming to light of it's dysfunctional operations.

2. Again there is no way this market could survive on 6 days a week, impossible in this location.

3. Our fair city is only 400,000 people, and I'll bet you, 380,000 people don't know about it. This could only work if the market had spent some money on marketing and adversitising rather than the 6-8 staff they have hired. And why on earth are the 3-4-5- staff there on a day when there's no vendors open.

4. Cranky, your'e so right on this. And unfortunately I think it will be too late. And maybe there needs to be a further investigation into the paper and money trail. This whole operation has been run shoddily, underhanded, internally corrupt. You have board decisions being made by one person only, with no accountability. You have management that runs things like they own it, no respect, nothing. What the market doesnt get is the 200+ businesses that rely on the market's leadership of which there is NONE. They have self serving boards from day one, accesses to market information that was destroyed and erased as far back to 2010. They say they have no space but the market is empty. The place has never been audited and the numbers I saw were squashed in a public meeting and anyone that was asked a question about them, didnt have an answer. The market in its current form won't work because the market doesn't give a rats ass about any of its tenants. But I digress and shall stop as I don't want to ruin my dinner by getting distraught again.
And finally, yes, I am a vendor of the market and it's time the public heard our voice as isnt that why the people come to the market, for the vendors of the market, not the people who are runnning it into the ground?

Re: “Council to discuss missing concert money

Crooks, all of them. Fire the whole lot and find someone that can get in there and do the job, I don't believe the new COA is doing it, where is he in all of this bullshit? Why hasn't charges been brought against the mayor, why hasn't someone gone and lodged a complaint at the police station and charged the mayor. Why isn't anyone standing up and raising shit. Well, guess what I'm about to.
