Re: “Daniel's Tailors

Fifteen years ago I made an amateur quilt (double) for my stepson when he was a child. During the project, children were involved and I'll never forget their reactions to the quilt frame, the thimbles, needles and threads. With wear and tear, the quilt was in such a state of disrepair that I considered it matter of salvage. Having newly arrived in Halifax, the time was right to see to it and as such, discovered Daniels. An opened door, a welcoming invitation for the unassuming to ask if it were appropriate. The kind gentleman beamed and, in his words, "I am happy to help". The bias made from scratch, the periphery salvaged as much as possible, the holes on the quilt-top appliqued. The extra fabric I carried around Canada for years came in handy and was now in the hands of not only a Master, but a kind and caring man who clearly enjoys his profession. Now, a beautiful story to share, particularly at this time of year to honour Daniels Tailors who have happily salvaged and strengthened a child's keepsake.
Having had only childhood memories of the Tailor in my small-town growing up, I never had the privilege of having work by this specialized profession for my own self. I only ever had one need and this was it.
Daniels is the only business in my lifetime that I stop by to just say hello. Exceptional by any measure. Aren't we very fortunate.
