Choosing what to see at the Atlantic Fringe Festival is no easy task. Previous years have offered polished gems, diamonds in the rough and stones that should never have been unearthed. But since they're all offered at practically dollar-store prices, you can't go wrong. Here are a few of my top picks:
Chug
The Economy Shoe Shop, 1663 Argyle Street, Sep 3-5, $5
A contemporary dance piece in a crowded restaurant? This I've got to see! Plus, there's the added bonus of being able to eat and drink at the Economy Shoe Shop while being entertained.
Sunnyside Cafe
Neptune's Studio Theatre, 1593 Argyle Street, Sep 4, 7, 11, 12, 13, $10
It stars Merritt-award winning actress Sherry Smith, it's directed by the talented Lee J. Campbell and written by poet and playwright Pam Calabrese-MacLean. Need I say more?
Huge Sums of Money
The Bus Stop Theatre, 2203 Gottingen Street, Sep 4-5, 9, 11-13, $4
Written and directed by Adam Reid, artistic director of the hugely successful Queer Acts Theatre Festival, this is billed as a hysterical reflection of the job opportunities we trip over while following our career path.
