Justice

Audio, Video, Disco (Elektra)

I can understand why Justice’s new album, Audio, Video, Disco, sounds nothing like its old album. After releasing its debut in 2007 to critical acclaim, every electronic act from that day forward stole the band’s signature sound (bass that sounds like a monster farting) and put it on every song out since. Then dubstep happened and electronic music got a lot louder. So now Justice has done the opposite and gotten a lot quieter. The keyboards are more precise, the vocals sound like Yes (“New Lands”) and there’s only one chest-shattering track on the album (“Civilization”). But that’s enough for a band heralded as the next Daft Punk. Let’s hope this is just a sophomore slump.
