Josh Martinez is Pissed

The genre-bending rapper brings his rock band Pissed Off Wild back to Hali.

Josh Martinez's new record Pissed Off Wild is like a parfait of music genres and surprisingly rap, rock, punk and a little funk make a pretty delicious combo. "My music, like my brain, is pretty ADD-driven. I figure I listen to a lot of different music, and I wanted that accurately reflected in the music that was being made," says the Halifax native, who currently lives in Portland. "Plus rock has as much if not more swagger than rap, and I wanted to dig deeper into sounds that I was loving but wasn't replicating musically." And he dug deep. No stranger to genre-bending Martinez joined forces with seasoned Vancouver players---Kenton Loewen, Pete Schmitt and Jesse Waldman---and brushed up on his singing chops for the project. "I drank and smoked a lot. It helps. And hurts." The Seahorse gets Pissed this Friday to celebrate the success of a record five years in the making, and the cap of POW's cross-Canada tour.

Friday June 24, The Seahorse Tavern, 1663 Argyle Street, 10pm, $10
