Jenocide’s in knee deep

A Monday night Jenocide dance party at Menz Bar? Yes please.

A great year calls for another great show in Halifax. Jen Clarke, AKA Jenocide, will be letting loose Monday night for her first performance at Menz Bar. "This year has definitely been all about keeping it hater-free and surrounding myself with positive people like Willow Bell, who co-produced my EP," says Clarke. Knee Deep defines the dance element of Clarke's music and drops at the end of this month.

Live music is rare for Menz Bar, so Clarke will be pulling out all the stops. If you're a shy guy, you can certainly sit by the fireplace, grab a drink and take in the not-so-local-sounding local music. And if you consider yourself a fly gal, get a group together and leave some of that pre-winter-break stress behind. It'll be worth sleeping through Tuesday morning's class.

Clarke's music set-up, she says, consists of "a mixer, keyboards, Kaoss Pad, beats and Sparkle Braid." Her live show strips down to basically just the girl and the beats, getting rid of all the extra technology that might be in the way otherwise. When she's not performing with DJ James Reid, Clarke likes to get rid of whatever clutter she can.

"Making the choice to perform solo has been very liberating. I certainly agree with Lene Lovich's initial lucky number sentiments," says Clarke of Lovich's "My Lucky Number," lucky number one. Joining Jenocide for a separate performance will be Catholic Gaydar to help balance out the adrenaline rush from Clarke's set. CG's music is more head-nodder than rump-shaker, though you can still count on it supplying a four-on-the-floor rhythm anyone can dance to.

Together, Jenocide and Catholic Gaydar's names sound like they're out to sin and offend, but this is music made by considerate, joyful people. So, go dance your happy ass off Monday night.

Jenocide w/ Catholic Gaydar, Monday, November 29, 9:30pm, Menz Bar, 2182 Gottingen Street,
