Jennifer Watts is wise. She consistently unravels complex issues and gets right to the social justice heart of the matter. Alas, there haven’t been many issues of substance to come before council this year, but she was a much-needed voice of reason on everything doing with the landfill and, along with Mason, on the regional plan review and revision.

We’re giving Watts the highest grade this year because she was the only councillor to vote against exempting the convention centre developer from normal rules. No, Watts’ vote didn’t change anything, but when historians look back at this time, they’ll see that out of the 16 councillors, one mayor and 51 MLAs, there was one politician who saw through the crap. Such things matter.
