Jenn Grant

Songs for Siigoun (independent)

Recorded as a gift for Dan Ledwell’s newborn niece (Siigoun in Cree means “spring”), Jenn Grant is offering this extremely limited four-song EP at her shows. Pick one up Thursday at the Paragon as a tide-over until her new record Honeymoon Punch drops in January. Each one, with its individually hand-painted sleeve (collector junkies take note, a hand-painted White Stripes 45 recently sold for $18,000) is dreamy, as are the tracks inside. “Let’s Get Started,” recorded in front of a crackling fire, is wonderful because of its stark simplicity. Grant accompanies herself on the soaring and elegant “Back to the Country.” She also does a superb version of friend Tanya Davis’ “Gorgeous Morning.” But it is Grant’s elegiac treatment of John Denver’s “Annie’s Song” that will leave you scratching your head in elated bewilderment, wondering if this song has ever been sung so beautifully.

Should council use the yet-to-be-finalized Centre Plan when debating new developments?

  • No, it doesn’t exist yet and is still likely to change
  • Yes, thousands of hours of work and consultation have gone into what’s already assembled
  • Maybe, it really depends on what’s being proposed by the developer
  • I don’t know what the Centre Plan is and do not wish to participate in this poll
