Re: “Saying farewell to Nova Scotia for a reason

There's another, more subtle reason why it's difficult to move to the Eastern provinces. There is a general suspicion of new comers to the area that do not have family ties. I have had several friends over the years who tried to move to Halifax and be integrated, but were met with social hostility from the residents. These people were naturally outgoing and made friends easily, but were met with cold stares and closed doors. One friend, after making a go of it for a year, packed up and returned home.

The first time I hear of this happening, I thought it was a fluke or a bit of bad luck. But I have heard this story several times over the years, so it's making me wonder: do folks in the Eastern provinces even want "outsiders" to move to their shores? It may be something to explore.
