Sole of the City gets to the heart of the Nocturne festival

“This was inspired by the Nocturne theme this year, Found and Lost and Found, and the changing of social spaces,” says material-artist Kim Danio. “You know The Economy Shoe Shop? I thought, I just have to make a shoe out of the Shoe Shop, and it all went from there.” Using recycled and found materials, Danio is transforming the basement of Argyle Fine Art into a geographical model of Halifax, with 38 illuminated iconic buildings and structures made from shoes. From the George’s Island lighthouse to Theodore Tugboat, Danio’s display is joined by the paintings of Craig Bulzer, which feature Halifax scenes at night. The display shows how Halifax has one foot in the past and the other in the future, and Danio’s creativity will inspire you to see the true sole of the city.
