Inky inspiration

Adept Tattoo’s 7th annual Maritime Tattoo Festival is springing in with international and local artists, contests, mud wrestling and a whole lot more.

Now’s the time to think about your next tattoo.
  • Now’s the time to think about your next tattoo.

Whether you've got the pristine skin of youth contemplating your first permanent art piece, you're in the process of going full lizard, or maybe you just want to turn your belly button into a cat's anus---whatever your poison, Adept Tattoo's 7th annual Maritime Tattoo Festival has inky inspiration up the ying yang. The three day fest is heralding both international, national and local tattoo artists who will be competing in a variety of hourly contests from traditional colour, black and grey and Sailor Jerry to most realistic and blackwork, plus a tattoo of the day category that will have everyone showing off at top form. This year, special guests Alexis Kovacs of Best Ink and Brianna Belladonna from AMC's Freakshow join the fun, and as always ladies be getting dirty and ruthless in a mud wrestling beatdown for $400. Plus, with live music by The Graboids on Saturday and Three Sheet on Sunday, and the beloved three-hour harbour boat cruise to sail off into the sunset (or, rather, dead of night) this fest is exactly what we need to start the season right.

May 18-19, 12-10pm; May 20, 12-6pm, Halifax Forum, 2901 Windsor Street, $15 (day pass), $35 (weekend pass), $70 (VIP pass),
