I Give It A Year

It's a bad time for mainstream romantic comedies. People are so sick of the stale formula, even Hollywood isn't making them much anymore. The twist in this tale? It starts where most of them end, at the wedding. Upwardly mobile Brits Nat (Rose Byrne) and Josh (Rafe Spall) have only been dating for a few months but are crazy in love---until after the ceremony when they start to find they're actually not so well- suited. Minnie Driver, Anna Faris and Simon Baker all acquit themselves respectfully as the typically Richard Curtis-esque more-interesting-friends-of-the-leads, but a deluge of lowbrow gags spoils the sweetness. And Stephen Merchant, as the rude friend always saying the wrong thing, is wretchedly unfunny.
