How do you make the Best of Halifax better?

The Best of Halifax Awards are changing. Here's how.

How do you make the Best of Halifax better?
#BOH15

Dear readers,

It's time. This year, we're changing our Best of Halifax Readers’ Choice awards.

Since the debut of our readers' choice survey in 1995—back when the ballots were handwritten and the winners only took up two pages in the paper—we've been trying out different ways to make the survey stronger. And with stronger came more.

An appetite for more questions pushed us to separate both Best of Food and Best of Music into their own surveys in 2002, so since then we've been celebrating Halifax’s favourites three times a year. But after 20 years of consideration and vote counting, we've decided to bring the Best of Halifax family back together in the name of delivering a bigger, better product. But how do you make the Best better?

For starters, you'll only have to vote once a year, and you'll have more time to do it. Polls will be open for the city, food and music categories from June 1 to July 31st, votes will be tabulated and results will hit the streets in November, around the time of our usual Best of Halifax City Award issue.

What the merge won't  mean is a drastically different survey. We'll spread the hundreds of winners over two big, celebratory issues (November 5 and 12) to ensure that all of your picks still get the spotlight they deserve. As always, we’ll be focussed on keeping the many categories fresh and relevant to your interests.

Thanks so much for continuing to be Halifax’s Best Readers. We look forward to celebrating the 21st annual Best of Halifax awards with you.
