Bullrushes Will Grow

Households
Bullrushes Will Grow
(Burnt Oak)
Environmentalists first and musicians second, Households has released its second album in casing that was “salvaged from a brewery dumpster” and with liner notes that appeared to be glued on with a glue stick. They also like to play “by candlelight.” With Bullrushes, this small eco-band from Guelph has enough political stands to have a platform for office and they come off pandering like a Christian rock group—except they replaced Jesus with some Earth Goddess. Although the band’s sound is solid and comparable to the Mountain Goats, the songs are tolerable only when the lyrics remain too obscure for you to see what they’re trying to sell you.
