Hoserfest: Back and Plaider than ever

Saturday October 10 at Gus' Pub

A fundraiser for CKDU has never been so full of national pride as Hoserfest (Saturday, October 10, $6/$5 if you dress like a hoser). Hosted by Mat and Dave from Let's Get Baked and featuring local bands performing their favourite CanRock hits such as York Redoubt (Tom Cochrane), Mike O'Neill (Burton Cummings), The Prospector's Union (Neil Young), The First Aid Kit, Laura Peek (Rough Trade), The New Gideons (April Wine, Trooper and Rush), David Myles (Gowan), Ruth Minnikin (Joni Mitchell), Gianna Lauren (Celine Dion) and The Stolen Minks (Loverboy). "Mark Black and Stephan MacLeod are doing a special hoser version of TV Party," says Mat Dunlap. "Then there's the maple syrup chugging contest. We're also making a bunch of homemade old fashioned donuts. And we're selling our own Mat and Dave brand maple syrup which comes nicely packed in a beer bottle with our own little label." I don't know what's more adorable, a cute little bottle of maple syrup or seeing Gus' filled with people dressed in their cozy plaid finest. "Canadians need to embrace their true hoserness because its who are. We all love donuts, maple syrup, John Candy, hockey, and BTO, its a plain fact," says Dunlap. "Hoserfest gives everyone a chance to officially break out the toques, parkas, and plaid to get ready for winter months."
