Honour V-day, see the The Vagina Monologues

SMU Women's Centre presents Eve Ensler's ever-important play, with proceeds supporting Stepping Stone.

Sweet little vag cookies.
  • Sweet little vag cookies.

Since it's inception in 1996, The Vagina Monologues has become an international household name, wowing crowds in endless cities, languages and venues. But somehow, no matter how uniform the script, it's never the same show. "Every year a new woman reads the part and brings her own experience to the piece," says Danielle Dufour, the producer and director Saint Mary's Women's Centre's production of Eve Ensler's play. "One woman might interpret something completely different than years previously and that keeps it vibrant and relevant." Dufour and her cast of 13 women have been working towards making their show as unique as possible. In the spirit of V-day, the world-wide non-profit movement aimed at raising money for women's anti-violence groups, proceeds from SMU's production will support Stepping Stone and their hard work in Atlantic Canada. Aside from making you blush, squirm, laugh and maybe even cry, the cast will be auctioning off a huge collaborative painting of, you guessed it, a vagina.

Feb 9-11, Saint Mary's University, McNally Theatre, 923 Robie Street, 8pm, $10/15, tickets available at Venus Envy or call 496-8722 for info on rates for low-income families
