Hollywood’s recycling program

Five years, and nothing but the same-old. And you like it.

Don't cry for the death of the classic cinematic experience—weep for the original screenwriter. Hollywood has always remade, reinvented and recast itself: We're fresh off an updated Murder on the Orient Express, and a new Jumanji awaits this holiday season for those who...wanted it? But take a look over the past five years of box office top 10s, and you'll see exactly how dependent (lazy) the studios have become on the idea that people just want to see the same familiar stories over and over. For now, they're not wrong. And whose fault is that?
