The finalists have been announced for the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia Masterworks Arts Award, the province's largest award given annually to a single work of art. In addition to the esteem that comes along with being awarded the prize, the winner takes home a cool $25,000.

Five artists representing five unique disciplines are in the running and the deal is sweet for everyone–the four runners-up will take home $3,000 just for being named as finalists.

In alphabetical order, here are the five nominees:

Playwright Catherine Banks for her play It Is Solved by Walking, a fascinating exploration of creativity and sexual desire.

Choreographer Randy Glynn for his creation Dancing in the Third Act, a one-hour dance piece performed by senior citizens.

Poet Sue Goyette for Ocean, a collection of 56 poems about the ocean and its interactions with humans.

Visual artist Sara Hartland-Rowe for Travellers, seven figure-shaped, enamel-on-aluminum panels. You'll recognize the piece if you've ever waited at the Dartmouth Bridge Terminal.

Composer Dinuk Wijeratne for "Love Triangle," a 15-minute piece of chamber music commissioned by Toronto's Gryphon Trio.

The public has a chance to celebrate with the nominees at a panel discussion at Neptune Theatre on September 16.

The winner will be announced on November 7 at the Creative Nova Scotia Gala.
