Re: “Common courtesy denied

I once held a door for an older lady and she gave me the dirtiest look and barked at me, "I can get my own door!". I still hold doors for anyone and everyone - undeterred by that one person's messed up world view. Continue to take the high road OB and hold them doors. Small kindnesses help maintain civility in our society.

Re: “Driver's ed

My other pet peeve is lane jumpers. The other day while driving in town a gal in a big SUV came tearing up behind me, zipped into the right lane, passed me, zipped back into the left lane and then stopped at the next light just in front of me. Lane changes are major causes of accidents on city streets. Was it really worth it to be speeding and make two lane changes just so she could be one car ahead at the next light?

Re: “Driver's ed

Good post! I think tailgating on the highway should be treated as road rage by the law. I usually set my cruise on the speed limit. Often when I pull into the passing lane to go by a slow moving vehicle someone comes screaming up behind me at 130 to 140km and sits right on my back bumper until I get by the slow vehicle and pull back into the right lane. I'm not going to break the speed limit just because someone is too impatient to wait 10 seconds until I am "out of the way" and thinks they can somehow bully me into speeding. .

Re: “Is it just women who yak on cell phones while peeing in a public toilet...

I'm more grossed out by the lack of hand washing. Was at a bar last weekend and went to the washroom. Two 20-something guys were in adjacent stalls yakking back and forth - which is a bit weird - when did dudes start going to the can together? Anyway, one guy finished up and waited for the other - still yakking back and forth. Then they both just walked out. No hand washing! I hope I'm never introduced to them. I ain't shakin' them filthy hands!

Re: “Not my first crosswalk

^^ True. Bad drivers of all stripes abound. One day I waited patiently for the light to change, started to cross and all of a sudden a"lady" turning left had to drive on the wrong side of the road to avoid hitting me. She was rushing to make the turn and was watching oncoming traffic but oblivious to pedestrians. I reported her but she lied to the police and I had no witnesses to back me up. And so it goes!

Re: “Failing the ones who need it the most

"..a stadium might improve people's health by way of providing a place to watch football." That's a bit of a stretch. Sounds similar to the "trickle down" theory. Cut taxes and/or give government money to the already very wealthy and they will spend it in such a way that it trickles down to benefit the huddled masses. Only it's long been debunked as a con. The rich just get richer and the rest of us get poorer because we have to pay a higher proportion of taxes to fund services - you know, like health care, education and transportation.

Re: “To the white guy who yelled at me from his BMW near Dal

I would urge all people to try to be just a wee bit more introspective about their personal baggage before posting online. Being yelled at from a car may indeed be bitch-worthy but the tag line "tired of entitled men" rather than "tired of entitled people" betrays someone having an axe to grind. Doubly so if this was a bitch written just to be provocative. I can assure you from personal experience that white men don't have a monopoly on bad behaviour and entitlement. It tends to span social class, races and gender.

Anyway, as the saying goes, leave your baggage at the door.
