Re: “Drunk chaperones

Your friends are high right now
Your parents are high right now
That hot chick's high right now
That cop is high right now
The president's high right now
Your priest is high right now
Everyone's high as fuck right now
And no one's ever coming down

I am so freakin' bored
Nothing to do today
I guess I'll sit around and medicate (medicate)

Re: “Tattoos, hair colour and midriffs do not equal bad service

On second thought, it's kinda funny that the OB saw the comment in the first place. I'd have thunk the suggestion box would be for the owner's eyes only - unless she wanted to point out something needing to change. Not sure why the OB would be seeing an unflattering comment if nothing was expected of her. This all sounds a bit odd.

Re: “Tattoos, hair colour and midriffs do not equal bad service

I don't care about tats or hair colour but I hafta admit that lots of exposed flesh and food service aren't a good combination. It's inching a little too close to a naked stranger handing me a plate of grub. Not good!! :-)

Seriously though, the main thing is that your employer is trying to make a living and is providing you employment. Small businesses run on tight margins. Every customer counts. You do owe it to the owner to put some effort into not chasing customers away - even ones that are more conservative than you. And, I don't think wearing a normal T-shirt to work is too much of a burden to bear.

Re: “Snowy cars

Saw the cops pull over a car one day downtown during a heavy snowfall. Foot of snow on the roof, hood and trunk. Rear and side windows completely covered in snow. Windshield also covered in snow - except for a small "porthole" that the driver had scraped out - and seemed to think was all she required for safe driving.

Driver rolls down side window ....just an inch or know, 'cause of the snow falling into the car.... and I imagine her saying something like,"Is there a problem officer?"

Re: “Lack of aid

There's a guaranteed minimum income pilot project underway in Ontario. If we had it here it would probably pay about 17k annually for an individual - which is at the poverty line. Social services currently only pays about 12k which is far below the poverty line. In the Ontario pilot folks on guaranteed income can work part time with only a 50% clawback so there is an incentive to work as much as possible. They could also use the money to go to school. Interestingly, there is some thinking (from both conservative and liberal quarters) that enough money would be freed up from a reduction in the bureaucracy that manages social services that it might end up saving money in the long run. Even so, there is still the massive hurdle of public perception of abuse of the system. I know from personal experience that some abuse does exist but I think it is a small majority and the majority of Community Services clients fall into two categories - temporary clients who want to and will return to work and single parents with low education who are trapped in the system. Anyway, it will be interesting to see how the pilot in Ont. turns out. This is what it might look like for N.S.…

Re: “Where have all the decent people gone?

Did you mean to say "Unfortunately for me, I am ..."?
Customer service is very difficult. I notice a lot of rude behaviours by the public when dealing with staff in cafes, restaurants, the library, etc. (Talking on a phone while ordering coffee is one of them. )
The problem is that most of us take all of the rude comments, impatience, etc. personally. It takes a certain type of person to be able to let all that wash off. Some people are very good at that. (I'm not one of them.) I know you don't want to hear this but it sounds like you are in the wrong job.

Re: “Dear self-righteous friend

I have coworkers/acquaintances like that. They are really deeply insecure people. They crave the reassurance of an audience and nodding heads to keep from feeling they don't measure up in some way. You might find this interesting.…
