Heart smart | Opinion | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

To the editor,

Nova Scotians have heart. On behalf of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, I would like to thank the thousands of Nova Scotians who braved the frosty February weather to support the foundation's fundraising efforts. Whether you were volunteering as a Heart Month canvasser, organizing a Dress Red event or making a donation, we appreciate your time and generosity.

Each and every donor and volunteer can take pride in knowing that together we are making a difference in the lives of Nova Scotians. I continue to be inspired by the efforts of our amazing volunteers.

As we celebrate a successful Heart Month, please remember that cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death among Nova Scotians. That is why we continue to invest in lifesaving research and health promotion programs that encourage physical activity, healthy eating and reduced tobacco use. We also encourage Nova Scotians to learn about heart disease risk factors, how to prevent or change them and how to respond quickly during a heart attack.

To our numerous donors, supporters and volunteers, we say thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Every dollar donated brings us closer to fulfilling our vision towards generations free of heart disease and stroke.
