Nova Scotia Community College

From the Graphic Design program to a dream job

Bee Stanton
I'm a Freelance Graphic Designer and Illustrator

I've done everything from designing business cards, posters and brochures, to hand-drawing elements for worldwide design campaigns. My business is called Beejaedee Design & Illustration, and it came about somewhat unintentionally. I graduated with the anticipation of working for a firm or one corporate client perhaps.

I landed a job as a full-time designer at a print shop, and along the way I discovered Instagram (@beejaedee). After a few years of posting mostly just shots of my drawings, my following grew to a fairly decent number and I started receiving emails from several businesses requesting my work. It wasn't until I was contacted by Estee Lauder that I was able to go completely freelance and Beejaedee Design & Illustration became my full-time gig!

I was fortunate enough to experience NSCC in two different locations: My first year was at the Middleton campus and my second at the Dartmouth waterfront. Second year was exclusively graphic design.

I love Nova Scotia—and Maritime culture—and get a lot of my inspiration from coast life. If this isn't my dream job, I don't know what is.

Survey Asks

Should council use the yet-to-be-finalized Centre Plan when debating new developments?

  • No, it doesn’t exist yet and is still likely to change
  • Yes, thousands of hours of work and consultation have gone into what’s already assembled
  • Maybe, it really depends on what’s being proposed by the developer
  • I don’t know what the Centre Plan is and do not wish to participate in this poll
