Every day should be Earth Day, but if you can put in some time on April 22, the planet would greatly appreciate it (and you could also consider expanding to Earth Month, or Earth Life). Help celebrate the 40th anniversary of this movement with a globe-friendly cocktail at these local establishments.
Morris East
The downtown pizza house features a pair of drinks on those recovery Saturdays that are sure to rejuvenate you: the Carrot Colada, made from carrots picked up at the Farmer’s Market that morning and juiced with OJ, coconut water and, most importantly, a shot of rum; their bloody Mary contains an ounce of their own garden vodka. 5212 Morris Street, 444-7663
Chives
Chives currently boasts nine local wines from the Jost and Saint Famille wineries and the Gaspereau and L’Acadie vineyards, plus Vitners Reserve from Domaine de Grande Pre, and the limited release Nova 7 (“an off-dry, gently frizzante white wine”) from Benjamin Bridge in Wolfville. 1537 Barrington Street, 420-9626
The Wooden Monkey
A local trailblazer in the green movement, the Monkey has got a few cocktail tricks in its poncho, including martinis that use organic vodka and local juices of the cran- and blueberry varieties, plus a pair of organic cocktails: one’s got organic tequila, OJ and NS blueberry juice and the other’s got silver tequila, vodka and white grape juice, all organic. Your buzz never felt so clean. 1707 Grafton Street, 444-3844
