Grand Theft Bus
Made Upwards
(Forward Music)
After experimenting with a more commercially palatable sound on their sophomore effort Flies in the No Fly, Fredericton four-piece Grand Theft Bus follows up with Made Upwards. Hope for a return to the addictive jazz-infused pop/rock of their debut, Birth of Confusion, remains unfulfilled. The opening chords of “Do I Have to Dance” are symbolic: They unexpectedly jar you before the song settles into a comfortable GTB vibe. There are still moments where vintage GTB shines through but they don’t carry through the whole disc. Perhaps these tracks need to be experienced live, as GTB put on an incredible live show: See it this Saturday at the
Marquee.
