Golden opportunity

Behind the scenes at Sunday's Golden Globes, there will be items more stunning than James Franco's smile.

Atlantic Canadian companies Galloping Cows, Glass Harp Gallery, Michique, LouLouBell and Turbine will have swag available at the awards' gifting suites. Beyond the exotic trips and hybrid cars, VIP types will be offered homegrown marmalade, jewellery, handbags, clothing and other accessories from this region.

The companies came to the attention of Dubois, Pelin & Associates, the Golden Globes' gifting producers, when they participated at TIFF. One of the big hits at the Toronto festival was Turbine's Little Edie dress, which caught the attention of Michael Sucsy, the director of HBO's Grey Gardens remake. He took one for his sister. For the Golden Globes, owner and designer Lisa Drader-Murphy says that Turbine created 30,000 garments and thousands of pieces of sterling silver jewellery, mostly out of their Falmouth studio.
