Gloria McCluskey is a two-schtick pony. She stands up for Dartmouth, and she is hard-nosed about budgets. Each has an up and a down side. Standing up for Dartmouth is all well and good. McCluskey will be instrumental in bringing a cultural district to the Dartmouth waterfront, including (hopefully) relocating the municipal archives from a concrete storage unit in Burnside to a proper museum near the ferry terminal. But she often becomes a self-parody, when, for example, she complains that not enough of the “urban improvement” funds are earmarked for Dartmouth. On the budget front, McCluskey seems to be running out of steam, and just going through the motions. She asks a few questions, but doesn’t much follow through. She seems tired, and disinterested.
