Fundy Film screens Sita Sings the Blues

Nina Paley wittily interweaves events from the mythological Sanskrit epic The Ramayana with a good-humoured depiction of her personal modern love story. Sharing numerous themes, the parallel tales of goddess Sita's estrangement from her beloved Lord and husband, the god Rama, and that of Nina's marriage break-down are woven together. Universally acclaimed, this innovative and whimsical animation uses delightful Indian shadow puppets and musical interludes from 1920s jazz vocals of Annette Hanshaw to offer up a charming and good-humoured cinematic experience that earns its tagline — "the Greatest Break-Up Story Ever Told."
