Full speed ahead for Slow down, Molasses

An 18-date cross Canada tour brings Walk into the Sea to Halifax.

Saskatoon's Slow down, Molasses.
  • Saskatoon's Slow down, Molasses.

In the past five years, Saskatoon's Slow Down, Molasses has morphed from a solo project into a band that boasts anywhere from seven to 15 members. "The idea was start something solo and leave it open to people interested in playing. That way I can play with people that I adore...and we're playing music because we're excited and want to play with each other," says the band's leader Tyson McShane. Out of 14 months of work, and collaborations with even more musicians (including Julie Doiron and Olenka and the Autumn Lovers), comes sophomore album Walk into the Sea. Leaving behind some of the alt-country vibes of their first album, I'm An Old Believer, a departure McShane says partly came from touring the country and his "bipolar record collection." "I haven't been at home with the acoustic guitar as much, I've been sitting at home with three delay pedals and the jazzmaster." Slow down, Molasses' biggest tour yet reaches its halfway point at Gus' where the band will share the stage with Jeans Boots, Klarka Weinwurm and Coast veteran Tara Thorne's band, Dance Movie.

Thursday March 24, Gus' Pub, 2605 Agricola Street, 10pm, $5
