Nova Scotia-born filmmaker Phil Comeau’s multi-award-winning documentary is a portrait and celebration of artist-activist extraordinaire, Frédéric Back (1924–2013). A prolific illustrator/graphic artist and roundly honoured filmmaker and animator, two-time Oscar-winner Back, in striving to depict the beauty of the Earth, was a most persuasive environmental activist. The film follows his exceptional path from childhood in France to his arrival in Québec. It is a tribute not only to the artist and man, but also to his message of simple universal values, inspired ideas, and poetic, luminous images.
