A pile of filthy snow in the middle of Grand Parade Square.

A pile of filthy snow in the middle of Grand Parade Square.

Remarks: We have no problem with snow here at On Patrol. Heaven knows we’re certainly going to be dealing with a lot of it in the near future. But an irate reader let us know about this curious pile and we simply had to know: Where did it come from? Is there a secret skating rink inside City Hall? Was the snow brought in especially for councilors to play with during the council break? Did someone attempt to build an effigy of Peter Kelly out of the frost scraped from the freezer? Why on earth is it so gross? No one at the HRM Information Line knew the answers to any of these questions, but the most likely solution was that the snow was brought in for (or a by-product of) the Christmas tree lighting ceremony and Parade of Lights last weekend. How festive. HRM Building Management handles all manner of debris in the Grand Parade Square area, and although they may not be shoveling the mess away anytime soon, they will most likely stand above it, shake their heads and tsk tsk.

Who's Responsible?: HRM Building Management (490-4580), and Mother Nature, we suppose.
