FIN: ATLANTIC INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL Autumn in Haliwood kicks off with the FIN Fest—the freshly re-named Atlantic Film Festival—and we couldn't be more excited. That's why Black Cop writer/director Cory Bowles is the star of our Fall Arts Preview issue cover. We've also got special looks at Play Your Gender, The Crescent, Small Town Show Biz and a bunch more don't-miss movies. Cineplex Cinemas Park Lane, 5657 Spring Garden Road, Sep 14-21, tickets from $11.25

ROBIESCOPE: FEAR & LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS Good Robot resumes its outdoor, sunset screenings Sunday nights this fall, for you viewing and brewing pleasure. This week, it's the larger-than-life story of rock star journalist Hunter S Thompson's wild ride through Las Vegas. Stay tuned for spooky screenings like Zombieland and Get Out as Halloween nears. Good Robot Brewing Company, 2736 Robie Street, Sun Sep 24, 8:30pm, free

THE MIDWIFE SCREENING The art house darling that keeps Haligonians in the loop with international indie films, Carbon Arc returns for another season of screenings with The Midwife. This 2017 French flick follows an honest-to-a-fault midwife about to be out of work, who's life becomes all the more complicated with her father's former mistress arriving on the scene. We can't wait to see Catherine Deneuve and Catherine Frot helm this tale of friendship and mortality. Carbon Arc Cinema, 1747 Summer Street, Fri Sep 29, 7pm, $7

GRIFF: GOOD ROBOT INDEPENDANT FILM FESTIVAL Just when it felt impossible, this north end brewery got even cooler, announcing an indie film fest that'll be screened on the open-air GastroTurf. Film submissions must be in by 9am on screening day (send them via email to brent@goodrobotbrewing.ca)—and don't forget to fill out the quirky, fine-print requirements: Each submission must feature one cactus and the words "What's on your face?" Good Robot Brewing Company, 2736 Robie Street, Sat Sep 30, 9am-12pm

HALIFAX 48 HOUR FILM PROJECT Filmmakers of all stripes compete against each other—and the clock—to create a film from scratch in a mere 48 hours (up for the challenge? Register at 48hourfilm.com/halifax). The results are shared at this sweet screening session where the audience votes for its favourite flick. Spatz Theatre, 1855 Trollope Street, $10, Sat Sep 30, 7pm

2017 ATLANTIC JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL The celebration of Jewish flicks from around the globe returns with plenty of offerings from art house to blockbuster. The official lineup has yet to be announced, but watch this site for updates. Oct 19-22

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD SCREENING Ring in Halloween with this, a timely screening of the first-ever zombie movie: The 1968 flick sees panic sweep America as the dead suddenly come back to life. Watching the main characters barricaded in an old farmhouse will surely kill your crush on The Walking Dead—because no modern camp can live up to this cult classic. Bella Rose Arts Centre, 283 Thomas Raddall Drive, $2, Mon Oct 30, 8pm
