Festival of Dance Annapolis Royal

Last year when Canadian choreographer Randy Glynn created a new work involving 12 untrained seniors the show, Dancing in the Third Act, became an unrivaled hit, selling out stages and prompting him to expand into this year’s inaugural festival within a festival. The Festival of Dance Annapolis Royal fits snugly inside ARTs Unleashed!—an arts, culture and living festival which runs August 16-24 in Annapolis Royal—and features locally-based Company of Angels, Mocean Dance of Halifax and JD Dance from Toronto (pictured) in a series of five different works that range from JD Dance’s whimsical Army of Barbie (Aug 22, 7:30pm; Aug 24, 2pm) that critiques society’s endless pursuit of perfection and beauty ideals to Company of Angels’ work Teen Angel (Aug 21 & Aug 23, 7:30pm) which brings seniors and teenagers together to bridge the generation gap.
