Festival hijinx

The Atlantic Film Festival's opening gala rolls the red carpet onto Citadel Hill. Roll yourself to one of these bars post-party.

The red carpet rolls out on top of Citadel Hill tonight for the Atlantic Film Festival's opening gala, which seems like a safe place to party until it's time to figure out how to get tipsily home---and off the Hill. Tuck and roll to one of these spots, or you can even follow the road in an orderly fashion. Aside: Friday Night Lights dreamboat Taylor Kitsch has a film in the AFF---if you roll into him tonight, give me a call. –Holly Gordon

Victory Arms Pub
If you're looking for a drink in an old-timey setting, Victory Arms has your number. The bar's doing a cocktail contest to raise funds for Autism Canada Foundation, where Victory Arms, Cut and Onyx created three drinks, called Ring my Bell, Thrill Ride and Hole in One. Vote for your favourite by Saturday, and you could win a ticket to the Autism Canada ball, or a $100 gift certificate to Cut. Either way, you'll be helping out a good cause by ordering any of the three for $8.95, plus tax. Lord Nelson Hotel, 1515 South Park Street, 420-9781

Halifax Alehouse
It'll take you five minutes flat to get to the Alehouse from the Hill, if you're being slow about it. And if hunger grabs you by the time you get there, Thursdays at the House will get you a pitcher of Bud and a plate of nachos for 12 bucks, plus tax. 1717 Brunswick Street, 423-6113

The New Palace Cabaret
Right next to the Alehouse sits this dance spot, which holds its own as one of the only late-night places in the city (to 3:30am). Thursdays bring an eye-opening amount of drink specials, with shooters, cocktails, Canadian, Coors Light, MGD and Molson all going for $2.50. This Thursday, DJ Trixxx will see you through to the end. 1721 Brunswick Street, 420-0015
