According to some person (obviously sitting under a full-spectrum light for way too long), January 21 is the most depressing day of the year. By my calculations, it hits some time in February. Perhaps anticipating our need for heat, this year Flamenco Festival Atlantic is splitting the big dance extravaganza into two events: Look for Fall for Flamenco in October; 10 days of workshops, concerts, food, wine, sore feet and more. But first, on Saturday February 2, Fiesta Flamenca!, a traditional party and fundraiser, will see Haligonians trading in their practical wellies for heels. Hosted by Club Caliente (5680 Spring Garden), expect the atmosphere of a traditional Spanish tablao, or flamenco show and restaurant, with individual performances by El Viento Flamenco, Maria Osende Flamenco Company, Viva Flamenco! and Fuego Flamenco, followed by a juerga, or jam party, and dancing for all. Tickets are $18, available from JazzEast, at jazzeast.com or at 492-2225.
