Feathers and Loam

Feathers and Loam is based on Pieter Bruegel's famous painting "Landscape with the Fall of Icarus" (1558), which contrasts the large, foregrounded figure of a ploughman in his field against the tiny form of Icarus, who has fallen into the sea. In the play, the ploughman and Icarus debate the worth of their two very different views of life---that you should work hard and keep your head down (ploughman) or that you should take chances and try to fly beyond the borders of your everyday existence (Icarus). They are helped in this debate by Pieter (a painter), the ploughman's wife, and a female muse figure. Rather than choose one view over another, Pieter decides to paint the ways the ploughman and Icarus see life. The Bus Stop Theatre, 2203 Gottingen Street
