From the ELG archives.

If you need to send an email to Eyelevel Gallery, do it now, before April 23, when the gallery unplugs itself. For 35 days, staff will not be checking emails or using any office technology that post-dates 1974. Like personal computers. And they'll be dressed in some groovy threads too, man.

The project celebrates Eyelevel Gallery's 35-year anniversary and is in some ways a call to arms over the intense amount of administration required to run an artist-run centre. As a former board member and co-chair of ELG, I can assure you that gallery directors are terribly overworked (usually underpaid) and are responsible for an incredible number of tasks, from plumbing to grant writing to community development. Anyone who has seen a grant application knows that some of those bad boys are pages short of being War & Peace in length.

In addition to ELG's time travel, they are also hosting a lecture series. Best of all, throughout the 35 days there will be exhibitions that are not organized or selected by the gallery, "but will instead serve to offer its space for people to congregate and to 'self-organize' art-related activities." Meaning, anyone could sign up for the gallery space to do whatever they want. This is going to be amazing. The gallery will remain open daily from noon-7pm. Each Thursday evening, there will be a reception/party for all participants and community members.

Get all the details here. Peace.
