Emiliana Torrini

Fisherman’s Woman

Emiliana Torrini
Fisherman’s Woman
(rough trade)
Filled with a lush and dreamy voice that was made for trip-hop, just as Beth Gibbons was. Fisherman’s Woman is a stripped-down affair from her trippy debut Love in the Time of Science. Taking cues from British folk hero Nick Drake, the disc is soft and beautifully laid out with awe-inspiring arrangements by multi-instrumentalist/producer Dan Carey. The pro- duction brings Torrini's voice right out to the forefront of the mix and pulls in the listener. She has easily the most fragile and gorgeous pipes since Hope Sandoval. Each track has its own flavour-derived British folk with a contemporary feel that separates itself from new Brit folkies like Kate Rusby. A must for fans of eclectic folk and those needing a calm chill record.
