If waiting is the hardest part, Burnt Church is on the up and up. It's been about a year since the Halifax grindcore band was holed up at Forward Studios laying down what would eventually be its new EP Embracing the Void. The band's second release (both were recorded under the wisdom of Mitch Kelly) hammers at socio-political topics, touching on Nietzsche, Canada's treatment of the First Nations populartion and society's standards of beauty. "Most of what I write about is inspired by things I read about in the news, or in books," says Burnt Church's frontman Mike Parks, who pens the material with drummer Gerald Smith. After sitting on this record since last spring, the band's looking forward getting it off what Parks called its "proverbial chests" and focussing on what's next: summer touring and the next EP, which they hope to release on vinyl.
