The Back Room

Published August 25, 2005.EditorsThe Back Room(Kitchenware UK)More melodic than Interpol, darker than Bloc Party and with more emotional impact than anything by the Kaiser Chiefs, Editors are the next big thing in the dance-inflected rock sweepstakes. But like its name, the UK-based band takes a more structured approach with its songwriting and in the process produces the most striking British debut since Franz Ferdinand. Although the band wears its influences on its sleeve (Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen, among others ) it does so while sounding unlike anyone else. With the well-deserved UK hit singles "Munich," "Blood," and "Bullets" in its arsenal as well as a seat at lucky 13 on the UK charts, Editors is set to be one of the last bands standing when the current trend dies down. —Johnston Farrow
