Eat and Fit opening 

Believe it or not, Davoud Sadeghi, the owner of nifty new Iranian restaurant, Eat & Fit (6184 Quinpool, the former home of Dodo’s Cafe & BBQ) got into the restaurant game out of boredom. For almost 30 years, Sadeghi worked as a commercial director for a manufacturing company in Iran; in March, Sadeghi and his wife immigrated to Nova Scotia. “I never have had...a longer vacation than four or five days,” says Sadeghi, who suddenly found himself with oodles of free time on his hands. He consulted the local Iranian community, who wanted to see a new Iranian restaurant come to the city. Eat & Fit serves a variety of “healthy and halal” Iranian appetizers and main courses. (Halal is a traditional Muslim way of slaughtering animals and preparing meat.) Never eaten Iranian? Sadeghi says ma’ast o’khiar (a side dish, made with plain yogurt, shredded cucumber, chopped walnuts and mint), and koobideh (charbroiled lamb and tomato, served with Basmati rice, topped with saffron) have been particularly popular. All the restaurant’s food is prepared by chef Nahid Hosseini, Sadeghi’s wife. “For the first time, if somebody’s coming here, I think it will be just the curiosity and the being adventurous,” says Sadeghi. “But I hope that if they are coming back, the reason will be that they love the place, and what they ate the first time.” Call 406-4242
