Drink rich or die trying

Every now and then you want to quench those expensive tastes of yours. Here's where to do it.

Now that you've saved your pennies feasting on affordable eats, loosen those purse strings and feed your finer tastes a liquid lunch. If you're paying top dollar for a drink, it's all about bang for your buck. Here are some pricier, but oh-so-worth-it drinks for those who enjoy the finer things.

Jamieson's Irish House

Bar owner Chris Smith is proud of his 20-year-old Gaelic single malt, Poit Dhubh. He bought the Scotch---$17 a shot---from Sir Iain Noble (a master distiller who's been knighted by the Queen) in 2004. He poured the delicacy dry the night before we chatted, but promises to track down another bottle.
5 Cumberland Drive, Dartmouth, 433-0500

Mosaic Social Dining Lounge

You'll pay $11.25 for a fancy-schmancy cocktail here, but it's really a steal---most of them contain two or three shots of premium booze. Drink-slinger extraordinaire Cooper Tardivel recommends the Reposado Old Fashioned: a blend of two shots of Tres Generaciones Resposado tequila (normally $9 a shot) and orange bitters.
1584 Argyle Street, 405-4700

Obladee Wine Bar

A glass of '04 Resalte Ribera del Duero for $13 is "a rare opportunity," according to Obladee's Heather Rankin. If you're going to pay a pretty penny to drink in style, sip on a glass of this decadent, medium-to-full bodied Spanish wine.
