Down with the Butterfly

Down with the Butterfly
(From Here to There)
This is an accomplished album for a young, emerging band that plays with confidence and sonic verve—some fine production by Andrew Watt and gorgeous packaging complete the presentation. Too often, though, you think to yourself: oh, that sounds like Dinosaur Jr. (“Two Stories”), this one’s a Talking Heads-styled tune (“Stanley’s Theory”) and finally, isn’t that a Dave Matthews kind of jam (“Blue and Green”)? Arguably, the answer’s yes to all, but at the same time you know the true chrysalis awaits as this band will find its own voice. Listen closely to “Tank”: this is an intelligently rendered song about the dangers, globally, of life with your head up your arse.

What should be done with the dead agave plant?

  • Chop it up and chase it with lime and salt
  • Cast it in bronze and put it where Cornwallis was
  • Burn it ritually for biomass
  • Plant it in every white girl's succulent garden
