Scanning through the FIN schedule can be an overwhelming task. A decent handful of the festival's films already have release dates, so you should consider saving those for later and make space in your week for these selections instead:

The Child Remains: Michael Melski's creepy-crawly haunted house film stars the great Quebec actor Suzanne Clément alongside Allan Hawco and Shelley Thompson. Fri Sep 15, 6:30pm

You Ruined Our Life!: Local treasure Bob Mann stars in this no-budget comedy caper from Iain MacLeod, co-writer of Relative Happiness. Look for other Halifax faves like Taylor Olson and Short Film Faceoff 2017 winner Koumbie too. Sat Sep 16, 3pm

Suck It Up: Newfoundland's Jordan Canning directs this salty-sweet comedy about a pair of best friends—one prim and proper, the other a total mess—hiding out at a cabin. Sun Sep 17, 6:15pm

California Typewriter: If you liked that Helvetica documentary, this is probably up your nerdy alley—the late Sam Shepherd, Tom Hanks and John Mayer (?) talk about their love of typewriters. Mon Sep 18, 4pm

How to Talk to Girls at Parties: Nicole Kidman stars as Queen Boadicea, queen of London punk in the 70s who throws sweet parties. But it turns out the attendees are aliens, of course. From John Cameron Mitchell. Tue Sep 19, 9:45pm

BPM: Set in the '90s, this drama follows the Paris branch of ACT UP as, 10 years into the AIDS crisis, those most affected try to make citizens and their government care. Wed Sep 20, 6:30pm

Don't Talk to Irene: Irene is an overweight loser, determined to be a cheerleader, in Pat Mills' Canadian coming-of-age story, which features star power in the form of Geena Davis. Wed Sep 20, 6:45pm
