David Vandervelde

(Secretly Canadian)
Multi-instrumentalist David Vandervelde recreates the glam-era Marc Bolan that graced such classics as Electric Warrior and The Slider with scary accuracy. While that should make fans of T.Rex and glam rock excited, the line between imitation and influence often gets blurred throughout this debut. But there is no denying that Vandervelde is a skilled player—he plays every instrument on the record. Vandervelde loves to play sleazy and greasy rock but it is hard to distinguish what is original, not a rip-off. It is too bad that his own influence isn’t as apparent, because there seems to be pop songwriter of vast talent in every song.
