David Hoffos: Scenes from the House Dream

Lethbridge video artists beams into the AGNS

The busy video installation artist, who lives and creates in Lethbridge, AB, beams his Scenes from a Dream House into the AGNS for nearly three months after a run at the National Gallery of Canada (in between trips to the Yukon and the Olympics). Hoffos’ “multi-year, multi-phase” project consists of five dioramas of everyday spaces, like a bar, a street and an underpass, that use cinematically evocative techniques like holograms and other eye tricks with mirrors and projections to create a dream-like, subconscious state. Kind of like Waking Life, but without all the exhaustive philosophizing.
